Immunotherapy and biological treatment of children’s cancerous tumors is a new method that is more effective and helps to treat children in a safer way with much less severe side effects.

The FDA approved the targeted Dinutuximab in combination with chemotherapy for patients with neuroblastoma. For children with Hodgkin’s lymphoma Pembrolizumab (Keytruda) – immunotherapy against PD-1, is approved.

Bone morrow transplantation also helps young patients with neuroblastoma, leukemia and lymphoma. Lately a lot of effort has been made to improve this approach.

CAR T cells therapy showed efficacy in clinical trials for young patients with leukemia and lymphoma.  Tisagenlecleucel (Kymriah) approved by the FDA for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

There are also other methods that undergo clinical trials for treatment of children and adolescents with sarcoma, neuroblastoma, leukemia, lymphoma, liver cancer, glioma, glioblastoma and other tumors. These studied methods are:

• oncolytic viruses;
• antibody-based immunotherapy;
• molecular-based vaccine, cell therapy.
